New partnerships in healthcare are reinventing how care is delivered and how patients enter the health system—what are the benefits to re-engineering the entrance into the system?

Right, it is exciting to be part of the change in delivery of care. You know, when I was young, it was really just a matter of going to the primary care doctor and they would dictate who your referral would be to. There was little to no information to the consumer about where you were going or where the next site was, and largely you could just go to the primary care facility that you had access to. In this new model that we’re moving towards, it’s an exciting time because there’s suddenly data and access that’s helping consumers understand where to go and what site of care is most appropriate to them. So for instance there are data tools out there that are providing members with the ability to know whether they should be selecting one facility over another. We certainly take the initiative in our episodes of care to identify early indicators with members and help them select which facility is best for them at that time.
