Strategic Alliance Focuses on Using Precision Medicine to Transform Healthcare Delivery

A new initiative seeking to transform healthcare delivery will elevate precision medicine with a focus on cancer, Alzheimer disease, cardiovascular disease, and more.

The new Alliance for Precision Health brings together Siemens Healthineers and the University of Missouri System (UM System) and ensures that UM System’s 4 universities and University of Missouri Health Care have access to the latest innovations in diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, as well as digital health solutions. In turn, as UM System employs these resources to deliver high-quality care, Siemens Healthineers will gain insights from the real-world utilization.

The strategic alliance is part of a 10-year agreement and focuses on 4 key pillars:

• Healthcare delivery
• Education and workforce development
• Healthcare innovation
• Research and collaboration

The alliance will be anchored by the University of Missouri’s NextGen Precision Health Institute, which includes laboratories, classrooms, and other space for faculty, researchers, and industry partners to focus on precision medicine and digital health.

The University of Missouri broke ground on the new NextGen Precision Health Institute, a $220.8 million project, on June 21, and the facility is expected to be completed October 2021.

“Our vision for the entire UM System is to advance the opportunities for success and well-being in Missouri, the nation and the world through transformative teaching, research, innovation, engagement and inclusion,” UM System President Mun Y. Choi, said in a statement. “Forming an alliance with Siemens Healthineers enables us to work toward this mission by providing our University and health system with leading-edge technology and resources, unique research and collaboration opportunities, training for the next generation of the health care workforce and expansion of our contributions to medicine and health care to rural Missouri and beyond.”

As part of educating the healthcare workforce, Siemens Healthineers and the UM System will co-develop a curricula that includes cybersecurity, data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence as they relate to healthcare.
