Michigan Blue Widens Hospital Value-Based Model

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has expanded its value-based hospital reimbursement model with 5 more health systems in the state, representing 24 hospitals, for a total of 7 systems.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) has expanded its value-based hospital reimbursement model with 5 more health systems in the state, representing 24 hospitals, for a total of 7 systems.

Under the new model, hospitals will work with their physician partners to establish an infrastructure plan that includes an all-patient registry system so that the inpatient and physician office care team can measure an individual’s health outcome against similar populations.

With this approach, BCBSM aims to coordinate care among all providers who treat the same patient to improve quality and make sure that the patient gets the right care at the right time. The hospitals also will help their physician partners to develop work plans to improve the health of the patient populations that they serve.
