Managed Care Minute: February 14, 2015

A one-minute look at managed care news during the week of February 9, 2015, including an announcement of a new Affordable Care Initiative and a potential change to recommended dietary guidelines.

HHS announced its new Oncology Care Model, which will promote improving quality of care and reducing costs through better care coordination. The model will focus on 3 key areas: linking payment to quality of care; improving and innovating care delivery; and sharing information more broadly to providers, consumers, and others to support better decision while maintaining privacy.

Plus, the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee is prepared to drop cholesterol from its “nutrients of concern” list. Updating the finding on cholesterol reflects a change in thinking about what to recommend for diets for healthy adults, but could affect patients with diabetes.

The committee’s 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans will be discussed at Patient-Centered Diabetes Care in Boston on April 16-17. See the full agenda and don’t forget to register.
