A study in the eighth annual health information technology issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®) centered around telemedicine visits and was highlighted by HealthLeaders Media, The Harvard Gazette, Health Data Management, and ECN Magazine. The study, “Patient and Clinician Experiences With Telehealth for Patient Follow-up Care,” concluded that telemedicine visits may be used with established patients for follow-up care without loss of patient satisfaction with communication with providers and with enhanced convenience and reduced travel time.

Another study in the issue, “Drivers of Health Information Exchange Use During Postacute Care Transitions,” was cited in an article from HIT Infrastructure. The study found that health information exchange offers significant potential to address unmet informational needs during transitions between hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. However, workflow barriers and design limitations currently limit value.

Articles in Physician’s Weekly and Medical Xpress also cited a study published in this month’s issue of AJMC®. The study, “Organizational Influences on Healthcare System Adoption and Use of Advanced Health Information Technology Capabilities,” is the first national study to examine the relationship between healthcare system organizational characteristics and adoption of advanced health information technology capabilities.

An article in Becker’s Hospital Review cited AJMC® article, “Hospitals Begin Posting Charges for Healthcare Services, but Oversight Still Missing.” The article reported that while hospitals are now required by CMS to post their charges for services in a machine-readable format, there are no penalties for noncompliance.
