Doug Fridsma, MD, PhD, FACP, FACMI, is leaving his position as the chief science officer for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to become the president and CEO of the American Medical Informatics Association.
AMIA, the home for informatics professionals, announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Doug Fridsma, MD, PhD, FACP, FACMI, as president and chief executive officer. Dr Fridsma is well-known in the informatics and healthcare community as the Chief Science Officer, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Dr Fridsma will join AMIA officially on November 1, in time to meet AMIA members and supporters at the AMIA 2014 Annual Symposium, November 15-19, Washington, DC.
"The AMIA Board of Directors is delighted Dr Fridsma will be our new president and CEO as a knowledgeable, compassionate, and effective leader who will ably serve AMIA and our members," said Blackford Middleton, MD, MPH, MS, FACMI, chair of the board of directors.
Dr Fridsma has spent 4 years in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), most recently as the chief science officer where he was responsible for the scientific and technical strategy for the ONC portfolio of technical resources to support the meaningful use program and health information technology interoperability.
