What are some oncology challenges that can be turned into opportunities with health IT?

Well, it’s interesting, coming off this panel one of the big things that we talked about is workflow. That so much of what health IT is available to clinicians and care teams right now has not been designed with attention to workflow at the point of care. And all the panel members today in the “Surmounting IT Challenges” section of the conference today highlighted, myself included, what an opportunity that is.

Suzanne [Belinson] with BlueCross, I think stated it very well [at the Patient-Centered Oncology Care meeting]. She said now it is the companies who have either clinicians at their leadership level and/or who are dedicated to bringing clinicians and care teams in the process of designing software that are really being disruptive in the most positive sense of that term, transforming how health IT supports providers, care teams, and patients and families by bringing their voices into the development and ensuring that they’re a part of the solution of designing and testing and improving these health IT solutions. That’s the crux of it.
