The American Journal of Managed Care® Presents the Advanced Payment Models in Oncology Webcast Series

This webcast will discuss the Oncology Care Model from the perspective of a clinician and a payer.

CRANBURY, N.J.--The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®), the leading peer-reviewed journal dedicated to issues in managed care, will be hosting its first webcast in an ongoing series discussing the best practices and insights for implementing advanced payment models in oncology. This initial interchange, focusing on the oncology care model (OCM), will be aired on September 27, 2017 at 12pm, 3pm and 6pm eastern time. The discussion, moderated by Bruce Feinberg, DO, vice president and chief medical officer, Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions, will be joined by Peter Aran, MD, medical director, Population Health Management, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma, and Kashyap Patel, MD, Carolina Blood and Cancer Care.

Senior vice president, Managed Markets, Jeff Prescott, PharmD, said, “It is vital to keep abreast of the current trends in areas where clinical practice converges with business management. Our webcast series offers inside knowledge and experience around the newly introduced alternative payment models, where healthcare professionals can learn from a variety of stakeholders already involved in these programs.”

Dr. Patel will discuss his experience with instituting the OCM program in his practice and will present strategies that medical professionals can apply to successfully adopt the OCM. Additionally, Dr. Aran will share a payer’s outlook and present his thoughts on the OCM’s effect on improving population health.

The OCM is an alternative payment model, designed to improve patient care by appropriately aligning financial incentives with care coordination, appropriateness of care, access to care for beneficiaries receiving chemotherapy. In order to provide utmost care at an affordable cost, the model integrates a two-part payment system, which includes an upfront payment for to support infrastructure and opportunities for performance-based payments focused on lowered total costs during an episode of care.
