First announced in June 2024, the acquisition will expand plan options and opportunities for members of both plans.
Grand Rapids, Michigan — Priority Health's acquisition of Fort Wayne–based Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana (PHPNI) was completed on December 1, following an initial announcement in June. At that time, Gary Shearer, president and CEO of PHPNI, noted, “Joining Priority Health has great potential to offer additional resources and innovation to PHPNI customers and members. We expect this transaction will benefit the communities and businesses we serve.”
The new deal means that opportunities from both plans will now be available to all members, which encompass Priority's more than 1.3 million members and PHPNI's 52,000-plus members. This strategic move marks an expansion into Ohio and within Indiana for the 2 plans, which received financial advisory assistance from Cain Brothers and legal guidance from Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP (PHPNI) and Taft Stettinius & Hollister (Priority Health).
“With approvals complete, we will now be working over the next several months to develop opportunities for both companies to continue to grow and leverage each other’s strengths as we plan for future growth,” said Praveen Thadani, president and CEO of Priority Health.
