Two new partnerships announced this summer increased OneOncology’s footprint in South Carolina by 10 physicians and 3 advanced practice providers (APPs), according to announcements from the national platform.
Anderson Area Cancer Center, with 4 medical oncologists and 3 APPs, announced its agreement with OneOncology on June 24, 2024, and Lowcountry Oncology Associates, based in Charleston, announced the relationship for its 6 medical oncologists on July 15, 2024.1,2
The practices join fellow South Carolina practice Coastal Cancer Center in Myrtle Beach, which joined OneOncology in 2023 and announced the acquisition of 2 radiation oncology centers with OneOncology in February.3
Upstate presence. The partnership with Anderson Area Cancer Center gives OneOncology a presence in upstate South Carolina, where the Anderson practice will continue its strong relationships with the AnMed health system and other physicians in the region. According to a statement, the OneOncology relationship will allow the practice to add physicians and cancer care clinics to increase patient access.
“This partnership strengthens high-quality cancer care in the Upstate,” John Doster, MD, president of Anderson Area Cancer Center, said in the statement. “OneOncology’s clinical, operational, and tech expertise along with their growing clinical trial program will enhance our ability to continue offering our community the highest quality of cancer care at more affordable costs without having to leave Anderson.”1
Jeff Patton, MD, CEO of OneOncology, said adding another South Carolina practice would increase value to payers and employers and allow for more innovative value-based care and contracting arrangements.1
Expanding in the Charleston area. Lowcountry Oncology Associates, which has served patients since 2001, will treat patients at 4 new clinics in in North Charleston, West Ashley, Mount Pleasant, and Summerville starting this October. The practice, which offers patients medical oncology and hematology services, will add in-office drug dispensing, laboratory services, and medical imaging as part of its partnership with OneOncology.2
“We’re excited to partner with OneOncology and tap into their operational, clinical, and technology expertise to grow our practice and enhance the cancer care services that we deliver in Charleston,” Matt Beldner, MD, partner at Lowcountry, said in a statement.2 “Independent community oncology practices offer the highest quality of cancer care at more affordable costs, and our partnership with OneOncology will strengthen oncology care services in Charleston.”
