Patrick White, president of MedAxiom, explains how his organization, a network of US cardiology programs, develops solutions to address transitions of care issues. Mr White explains how the trend toward more integrated, incentivized care is changing today’s healthcare systems.
Mr White states that over a span of 10 years, 70% of MedAxiom’s 325 programs have transitioned from single-specialty cardiovascular programs to integrated programs that are now owned or leased by hospitals or health systems.
For this reason, there is an increased focus on incentivizing physicians to work together and improve quality and efficiency within the facilities that treat cardiology patients.
Mr White explains that physicians are also becoming involved by participating in bundled payment programs with the goal of improving patients’ transitions between healthcare settings. He concludes that physicians will need to lead efforts to design more efficient healthcare delivery models.
