Given that the subsidies in the federal exchange have helped to cover a lot of previously uninsured people, Chip Kahn, president and chief executive officer of the Federation of American Hospitals, who had been in attendance at the Supreme Court for oral arguments on King v. Burwell on March 4, 2015, remains encouraged the Supreme Court will "do the right thing."

He is bullish that the Court will rule in favor of the government, and as such has not put too much thought into what plans will need to be made in the event that the ruling is in favor of the plaintiffs.

"It's just hard for me to imagine that interpretation over a few words in drafting are going to result in 8.8 million potentially losing their health insurance coverage," Mr Kahn said.
