American Journal of Managed Care's ACO Coalition to Meet in Miami

The American Journal of Managed Care brings the next meeting of its ACO and Emerging Healthcare Delivery Coalition to the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay October 16-17, 2014, where participants can learn and share best practices in an effort to improve overall patient outcomes.

PLAINSBORO, N.J. — The ACO and Emerging Healthcare Delivery Coalition, an initiative of The American Journal of Managed Care, will gather October 16-17, 2014, at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay for the first time since the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released new data on how accountable care organizations (ACOs) fared in the Medicare Shared Savings Program or Pioneer ACO program in 2012 and 2013.

The meeting will offer an opportunity to share experiences and hear from experts as the nation strives to move from a fee-for-service healthcare delivery model to one that rewards value, according to Brian Haug, president of Managed Markets and publisher of The American Journal of Accountable Care, the AJMC title devoted to research and commentary on healthcare reform. Those who still wish to register should email ACO_Coalition@ajmc.com for more information.

“Our ACO Coalition members will be talking about the new numbers, and I am sure everyone will welcome this opportunity to share what worked,” Haug said. “This meeting will reveal the benefit of working together as we move forward to deliver healthcare more efficiently.”

The keynote speaker will be Thomas Graf, MD, chief medical officer for Population Health and Longitudinal Care Service Lines, Geisinger Health System. Other sessions will include:

  • a patient-centered medical home case study
  • clinical care pathways and risk stratification
  • real-time electronic communication best practices
  • improving the interactions between primary care physicians and specialists

The American Journal of Managed Care created the ACO and Emerging Healthcare Delivery Coalition, which now includes over 100 stakeholders from across the healthcare spectrum. Through live meetings, teleconferences, and other formats, the Coalition offers opportunities for participants to learn from each other as they navigate a changing landscape that measures healthcare outcomes differently than in the past, and in some cases connects reimbursement to those outcomes.

The ACO Coalition involves payers, providers, accountable care organizations, integrated delivery networks, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and specialty and retail pharmacy representatives, national quality organizations, among other organizations. Join the Coalition in Miami October 16-17 to engage with thought leaders regarding operational best practices and actively debate the variables and alternate approaches of ACO solutions.

About the Coalition

As ACOs and other emerging delivery and payment models evolve and move away from traditional fee-for-service system models toward cost-effective and value-based care, the need to understand how these models will evolve is critical to building long-term strategic solutions. The mission of the Coalition is to bring together a diverse group of key stakeholders, including ACO providers and leaders, payers, IDNs, specialty pharmacy, and pharmaceutical manufacturers to work collaboratively to build value and improve the quality and overall outcomes of patient care. Coalition members share ideas and best practices through live meetings, Web-based interactive sessions and conference calls. Distinguishing features are the Coalition’s access to leading experts and its small workshops that allow creative problem-solving. To learn more, click here.
