Submission Guidelines
All manuscripts must be submitted through our web-based manuscript submission and peer-review system. Log on to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ajmc and follow the step-by-step instructions.
Requirements for all submissions generally conform to the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals." Our review process is blinded, so all identifying information (ie, author names, affiliations, etc) must be removed from the text and cover letter before submission.
By submitting your manuscript, you hereby guarantee that: 1) all sources used have been cited and listed in the references section; and 2) all necessary permissions have been obtained and credit properly given for content (ie, text and graphical items such as tables and figures) used in whole or part in the manuscript/eAppendix not considered to be original work.
Eligibility
The Journal can publish only a fraction of the papers it receives each year (approximately 35%). Manuscripts accepted for publication usually appear in print within 9 months from the date of acceptance.
Prior Publication: Manuscripts submitted for publication in The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®) must not have been published previously (either in whole or in part) nor currently be submitted elsewhere in either identical or similar form. Material posted on the Internet or disseminated in any other electronic form constitutes prior publication and may not be considered. Previous publication of a small fraction of the content of a manuscript does not necessarily preclude its being published in AJMC®, but the editors need information about previous publication when deciding how to use space in the Journal efficiently. These restrictions on prior publication, however, do not apply to abstracts or poster presentations published in connection with scientific meetings or to working papers that have been posted on the web to facilitate peer feedback.
Authors must indicate in the cover letter whether any portion of the manuscript has been previously published and are required to submit copies of related publications (either published, in preparation, or submitted), as well as any manuscripts cited as "in press" to the editors for review. Duplicate, redundant, and/or fragmented publications are not permitted. (Refer to Chapter 5 of the American Medical Association Manual of Style for further information on duplicate publication.)
Embargo Policy: Unauthorized prepublication release of accepted manuscripts is prohibited. Authors should not release information about accepted manuscripts via social media or news releases until publication. The embargo lifts when the article is published on AJMC.com; the editorial staff can let authors know the publication date and time when coordinating final approval.
If an author of an accepted manuscript is presenting at a meeting, we encourage them to reach out to the editorial staff at info@ajmc.com to see if it may be possible to coordinate online-early publication with the timing of the meeting presentation. If it is not possible to publish the article by the time of the presentation, the author may share high-level findings from their forthcoming paper (as much detail as would be found in an abstract) with the mention that the article will be published in the Journal. Please contact the editorial staff if unsure about how much detail is appropriate.
Length Restrictions: Strict length requirements according to manuscript category will be upheld. See Manuscript Categories for more information.
