An article from Berkeley Public Health referenced a study published in the April 2024 issue of The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®). The study, “Prices and Complications in Hospital-Based and Freestanding Surgery Centers,” found that hospital outpatient departments charged more for colonoscopies, arthroscopies, and cataract removal surgery compared with ambulatory surgery centers.

An article published in PLoS Medicine referenced an opinion piece published by AJMC’s sister site, The Center for Biosimilars®. In “Opinion: Purple Book Patent Listings Are Only a First Step,” the authors argued that, although the Purple Book Continuity Act was a key first step in transparency for patent information, more needs to be done to “illuminate the patent landscapes for approved biologic products.”
