Darius Lakdawalla, PhD, Director of Research, Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics, University of Southern California, thinks that payers follow the lead of providers in oncology management. The payers do what they think patients are demanding and are the "lagging indicators" in the system. "The more we can do to generate evidence to help physicians make clinically sound decisions and help to illustrate the value of patient-centered outcomes, the better we can improve decision making," said Dr Lakdawalla.
